Arrest History in Colfax County
An arrest begins several records that may later disagree. The officer or agency writes the incident and arrest report. Sheriff intake may add fingerprints, a photograph, holds, bond, and temporary custody data. A receiving detention center creates its own booking and communication record. The prosecutor then chooses whether and what to file. County Court or District Court preserves that case and its disposition.
That chain matters when the record is recent. The responding agency may have a report before a prosecutor files a case. County Court may then show a preliminary event while District Court has not yet opened a felony file. At the same time, the person may have left Colfax County's temporary cell for a contract jail. Search by the date of each step and ask each custodian only for the part it created.
The official sheriff duties page explains the countywide law-enforcement role.

Schuyler Police Department holds its own municipal incident reports. Nebraska State Patrol retains reports it created on state or highway enforcement. For Clarkson and Howells, identify the actual responding agency before requesting the record.
The official Schuyler Police page supplies the municipal department's current address and phone.
No Complete Colfax County Jail Roster
Colfax County has a six-person temporary holding cell. It does not house people there outside business hours and contracts with Butler, Platte, and Antelope County detention centers. The county therefore cannot offer one honest full roster of all Colfax arrests. A missing local roster entry does not prove a person was not arrested.
The Colfax County corrections page states the placement model.

Call the sheriff at 402-352-8526 during the posted weekday hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ask where the person was placed. Then use the named facility's official roster or phone line and follow its own visit, deposit, mail, and call rules.
Fastest reliable route: identify the responding agency, call the Colfax County Sheriff for placement, then contact the receiving facility.
How to Look Up Colfax County Arrests
No single screen covers the arrest report, transfer, filed charge, and statewide history. Use each channel for the part it actually holds.
- Ask the responding agency for the incident or arrest report. For Schuyler events, that may be Schuyler Police rather than the sheriff.
- Call the Colfax County Sheriff for temporary intake and the name of the contract jail.
- Contact Butler, Platte, or Antelope County after the sheriff identifies the placement.
- Search Nebraska JUSTICE after allowing time for filing and the portal's 24-hour lag.
- Call County Court about misdemeanors or felony preliminaries and District Court about a filed felony.
- Order an NSP repository report for statewide fingerprint-supported history, not instant custody.

Colfax County Arrest Agency Routes
The creator is the best first source for the narrative. The sheriff is the custody-placement fallback, but it is not automatically custodian of a Schuyler Police or NSP report.
Schuyler publishes a general city contact form with first name, last name, email, a question or comment, reCAPTCHA, and submit. It is a routing form, not a dedicated police-record request form. No separate Clarkson or Howells police page was verified. For those cities, note which unit answered the event, then call the sheriff if that fact is unclear. Do not assign a report to a city office based only on where the event occurred.
| Agency | Record route | Contact |
|---|---|---|
| Colfax County Sheriff | Countywide patrol, temporary holding, placement | 411 E 11th St; 402-352-8526 |
| Schuyler Police | Schuyler municipal incidents and arrests | 1103 B St; 402-352-2415 |
| Nebraska State Patrol | NSP-created state or highway report | Official NSP records channel |
| Clarkson or Howells event | Identify the agency that answered | Sheriff is countywide fallback |
A Nebraska Public Records Law request should describe an existing record with reasonable specificity. Give the event date, location, involved agency, report number if known, and desired record. Ask for segregable public portions and a written statutory basis for any denial.
The custodian generally has four business days to provide access, give a written statutory denial, or explain significant difficulty and state the earliest practical completion date with an estimated cost. An open investigation, protected source, confidential technique, or private identifier may justify withholding or redaction. The law does not force the office to create a new arrest summary when no such record exists.
What a Colfax County Arrest Record Shows
An arrest record describes the custody event at that time. It may show the authority for arrest, initial allegation, intake, holds, and placement. Some personal or investigative fields can be withheld or redacted.
| Event identity | Report or event number, date, time, and location. |
|---|---|
| Arresting source | Agency, officer, warrant, or probable-cause basis. |
| Initial allegation | Offense and charge known at arrest, which may later change. |
| Booking | Intake time, fingerprints, photograph, property, and evidence references. |
| Custody terms | Holds, warrants, bond, release, or transfer. |
| Placement | Receiving jail when the person leaves temporary Colfax County holding. |
The prosecutor-filed charge can differ from the initial arrest charge. Use the Colfax County criminal court case file for the filed counts and final disposition.
Colfax County Arrests Reach NSP
NSP maintains a fingerprint-based repository. When a qualifying Colfax County arrest includes fingerprints and the data is transmitted, NSP can create an arrest cycle. Courts and law-enforcement agencies later report qualifying dispositions. Spelling, delayed reporting, missing fingerprints, or an incomplete disposition can leave the state report out of step with the local record.
The live public request costs $30. The portal asks for the subject's first and last names, date of birth, sex, and race, with added identifiers optional. A clear no-record result may be ready at once. A possible match usually receives technician review within three business days, and results remain available for 14 days. A mistake in the submitted request cannot be edited, so check the identifiers before payment.
Record flow: Arrest › booking and fingerprints › prosecutor filing › court disposition › NSP update.
A public NSP report is searched by the name and identifiers supplied. It is not a guaranteed fingerprint identity match. If an outcome is wrong, first seek correction from the court, prosecutor, or agency that originated it. NSP depends on that source correction.
Recent Arrests and Booking Logs
No official Colfax County arrest blotter, daily booking log, mobile-app roster, or mugshot gallery was found. The proper response is not to substitute an unofficial people-search page. Call the sheriff for placement, then use the receiving jail's official resource if it offers one.
Platte County's detention page, for example, describes intake steps such as property processing, medical screening, fingerprinting, photography, and a warrant check. Those are Platte rules, not universal Colfax County rules. Its communication and deposit vendors apply only when the sheriff confirms that Platte is the receiving facility. If placement is Butler or Antelope, follow that facility's official instructions instead.
For custody-change notices, VINELink may help where the facility participates.

NEVCAP is Nebraska's other official alert layer. Notifications supplement the jail and court record; they do not establish guilt, a case outcome, or the full custody file. Confirm current status directly with the facility.
Note: Colfax County arrest history should be verified through official agencies, not inferred from the absence of an online booking list.
State Prison Is Not Colfax County Booking
The NDCS Incarceration Records Search covers sentenced state prisoners. It commonly accepts last name, first name, or a DCS ID number. Results may show an NDCS number, facility, offenses, sentence information, and projected or parole-related fields. It is not the route for someone just booked after a Colfax County arrest.
The official NDCS inmate search is the state-prison locator.

Use it only when a sentence or other reliable information points to state custody. A contract jail remains a county detention setting even when it lies outside Colfax County.
Arrests vs Convictions
An arrest shows that an agency took a person into custody or initiated a qualifying arrest event. It does not prove guilt. The prosecutor may file different charges, decline the case, or dismiss a count. A judge or jury may acquit. Only the court file supplies the official case outcome.
| Point | Arrest record | Conviction record |
|---|---|---|
| Created by | Law enforcement and booking staff | Court after plea or trial |
| Main purpose | Document custody and allegations | Record a judgment of guilt |
| Charge | Initial allegation | Count resolved by the court |
| Best source | Arresting agency and jail | County or District Court clerk |
| Meaning | Not proof of guilt | Judicial outcome, subject to later relief |
Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and every result should be matched to the official disposition before drawing a conclusion.
Federal Custody After Colfax County
A federal arrest or transfer does not appear in a county contract-jail search in the same way. The Bureau of Prisons locator covers federal prisoners, while PACER holds public federal docket material. The District of Nebraska is the federal court layer for Colfax County.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator handles federal custody searches.

No federal prison is located in Colfax County. A sealed federal warrant may not appear in a public docket, and the BOP locator should not be used as a substitute for a recent local booking call.
